Bowling Tips - For all Bowlers

Bowling Tips - For all Bowlers

(These are (some) basic principles for bowlers of all levels).

1.  Choose a bowling ball with a weight that you’re comfortable handling.  Bowling balls weight ranges from: Six (6) pounds (lbs) thru sixteen (16) lbs.

2.  When aiming, find a target on the lane (like one [1] of the seven [7] arrows or one [1] of the boards on the lane) and focus on throwing your ball through that target.

3.  Keep your head still throughout your approach.  If your head is bobbing, it is harder to concentrate on your target.

4.  Ensure that you keep your arm straight and relaxed throughout your arm swing.  That's very important!

5.  Concentrate on staying balanced at the foul line throughout your approach during the delivery.

6.  Be aware of the foul line at all times, so you do not accidentally cross it.

7.  Choose a style of bowling that fits you (straight, hook or curve) and stick with it.  Try not to get too frustrated and abandon it just because you not having a good game.

8.  Practice picking up your spares.  Spares can change the outcome of any game.

9.   During your approach, make sure you walk in a straight line, with your sliding foot pointing down the lane.  Avoid drifting to the left or to the right.

10. Try to keep your shoulders square with the foul line.  You have to be square at the line at all times during the release process.

11. Constantly watch other experienced bowlers to pick up subtle tips.  Do not pick-up any bad habits.

12. Keep your weight centered over your feet to help your balance at the foul line.  Do not lean forward.

13. Make sure you are warmed up prior to bowling.  Loosen up by stretching and holding your bowling ball, rocking it back & forth.

14. Buy your own equipment (ball & shoes) and maintain it well.  Get in the habit of cleaning your bowling ball after each use.  Keep your bowling shoes clean at all times.

15. Wear non-restrictive clothing, nothing that binds.  It is very important to be comfortable.

16. Most of all have fun when you bowl, no matter how bad things are going.
